Read the Label - Clean & Etch

HeatShield Clean & Etch cleans and etches all clay flue liner interiors for improved adhesion. This product is a must for flue tiles with a glazing compound that was applied at the time the flue tile was manufactured. Flue tiles manufactured in this manner have a shiny finish, similar to pottery, ceramic tile, terra cotta sewer or water pipe.

Clean & Etch cleans residual dust & soot (not glaze creosote) and chemically roughens the surface to improve the mechanical & chemical bond of HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Sealant to all clay flue liner systems. Clean & Etch is a hydrofluoric acid generator, which generates an acid etching material upon contact with clay flue liners (or any silica-containing surface) in as little as 15 seconds. It requires no neutralization or rinsing. Once Clean & Etch has dried, flue tiles are ready for coating.

Use Clean & Etch prior to Tie Coating for improved adhesion of HeatShield Flue Sealant. Cleans & removes residual dust & soot. Etches flue tile to improve adhesion of HeatShield to all flue tile surfaces. No neutralization or rinsing is required.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Surface Preparation: Thoroughly sweep flue to remove all soot and debris. Protect all non- target surrounding areas from accidental spillage.

APPLICATION:

Start with the properly sized foam set that is at least 1” larger than the flue inside diameter. Cover the 4” foam set with a large terry cloth towel or equivalent. Attach the terry cloth covered foam set to base of the pulling head. Using a winch, position the cloth covered foam set and pulling head at base of the flue, making sure it fits tightly against all sides of the flue.

Pour approximately one quart of Clean & Etch down the flue onto all four sides of the terry cloth covered foam set so that the terry cloth is completely saturated. With a winch, raise the covered foam set to the top of the flue and immediately remove to a large trash bag to prevent dripping onto roofs and surrounding areas. Check to ensure the complete flue interior is thoroughly coated with Clean & Etch. Place a fan at the base of the flue until flue is completely dry, which usually takes 20-30 minutes.

Note: This product will permanently etch glasses/contacts and reacts with alkalis releasing ammonia. Always wear protective gloves, clothing, eye protection, such as chemical splash goggles, and a NIOSH approved respirator equipped with a filter protecting against ammonia and other organic vapors when applying this product.

Drying Time: Dries in 15 – 30 minutes, depending upon conditions.

Clean Up: Return any unused material to original container. Thoroughly rinse terry cloth, foams, pulling head and spray equipment with clean water.

Coverage: One gallon covers approximately 400 square feet per gallon or about 100 feet of 12 x 12 clay flue tile.

CAUTIONS

Danger- Poison. Keep out of reach of children. Keep container closed. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Avoid breathing vapors or mist. The use of chemical resistant gloves, chemical splash goggles and a NIOSH approved respirator, effective against ammonia inhalation and organic vapors should be used when applying this product. See additional precautions on MSDS sheet.

FIRST AID

Eye Contact: Immediately flush with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes while holding eyes open. It is essential to wash with water within one minute to minimize eye damage. After rinsing, get medical attention.

Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing immediately. Wash affected area thoroughly with water, then apply calcium gluconate gel to the affected area and rub in for at least 15 minutes. If possible, apply a dressing soaked in 20% calcium gluconate solution and if burns cover more than the area of a hand, administer six effervescent calcium pills (400mg calcium per pill) dissolved in water. Transport immediately for medical attention.

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get immediate medical attention.

Ingestion: Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call physician immediately. Do not induce vomiting. Give two glasses of lime water, milk of magnesia or milk if available. Administer calcium pills as described in skin contact section. Medical treatment possibly including gastric lavage is required as soon as possible.

Note to Physician: Take appropriate action to counteract symptoms. See additional precautions on the product data sheet and SDS for this product.
