Read the Label - CrownCoat

CrownCoat® Brushable Sealant is a fast setting elastomeric coating that forms a flexible waterproof membrane. CrownCoat is specifically formulated to repair and protect chimney crowns from water intrusion. CrownCoat is easy to apply with a 3” or 4“ paint brush. CrownCoat is durable and requires no mixing or special bonding agents. The compounds in CrownCoat are solvent free and will not harm the environment.

CrownCoat can be used wherever a long-lasting exterior waterproof membrane is needed, such as chimney crowns, chimney corbels or tops of masonry or parapet walls. Another use is for masonry window sills where bricks are laid in a soldier pattern at the base of the window. CrownCoat can be custom colored with small amounts of standard mortar dye. If dyes are used, transfer material to be colored from the original container into a clean mixing container. Add mortar dye one or two drops at a time, and mix with trowel or paddle mixer until desired color is reached.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Weather Conditions: Surface and air temperature should be a minimum of 45°F at the time of application. Do not apply if temperature is expected to drop below 45°F within a four hour period. Do not apply to frozen or frost covered surfaces. Application must be to a clean, dry surface. Do not apply to wet or water saturated surfaces and/or when rainfall is expected within four hours unless adequate protection with a polyethylene film or its equivalent is provided. Store unused product in an airtight container above 32°F.

APPLICATION

Surface to be coated must be structurally sound, not loose. Surface must be clean and dry.

1.) Brush surface to be coated with stiff poly or wire brush to remove loose particles.

2.) Larger cracks and voids can be filled with fast setting patching cement or 100% siliconized acrylic caulking. Siliconized acrylic caulking will cure underneath the CrownCoat Brushable Sealant.

3.) Once repairs have dried, lightly mist the entire crown with clean water from a spray bottle. DO NOT FLOOD. Misting with water will help to cool a warm crown as well as improve both the penetration and adhesion of the CrownCoat application.

4.) Using a 3” or 4” synthetic bristle paint brush, brush a thin coat over the entire crown, working the material into the crown as if applying a thin coat of paint. Wait a few minutes after applying the first coat for product to form a tacky film.

5.) Brush a second, heavier coat of the product over the first coat.

Tips: To produce a clean edge and protect the brick just below the crown, place duct tape completely over the face of the top course or row of brick. Tape can also be applied to the flue tile approximately 1” from the base of the tile to produce a clean edge. Remove tape when CrownCoat application is complete.

Coverage Rates: Two coats of CrownCoat will cover approximately 40 sq. ft. per gallon, depending on texture and porosity of surface to be coated. Curing: Dries to touch in 30 - 60 minutes. Product cures completely within 2 - 4 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.

Clean-Up: Clean brushes immediately after each use with soap and water. To clean inadvertent spills from roofs, etc., remove excess and clean remaining CrownCoat with a stiff nylon scrub brush and water. Rinse thoroughly.
