CrownSeal™ Trowelable Sealant is a proprietary elastomeric coating that forms a flexible waterproof membrane specifically formulated to repair and protect chimney crowns from water intrusion. CrownSeal can also be used for a variety of horizontal and vertical exterior waterproofing applications. It dries to a natural concrete/mortar appearance. CrownSeal is a long-lasting and durable coating that requires no mixing or special bonding agents.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Weather Conditions: Application temperature should be a minimum of 45°F and rising but not greater than 95°F. Do not apply if temperature is expected to drop below 45°F within twenty four hours or if rain is immenent. If necessary, cover with plastic.

APPLICATION

Surface to be coated must be structurally sound, not loose. Surface must be clean and dry to slightly damp. Place drop cloths at base of chimney to protect roof from inadvertent spills.

1.) Brush surface to be coated with stiff poly or wire brush to remove loose particles.

2.) Lightly mist the entire crown with clean water from a spray bottle. DO NOT FLOOD. Misting with water will help to cool a warm crown as well as improve both the penetration and adhesion of the CrownSeal application.

3.) Apply to surface with a trowel, putty knife (plastic or metal), or 1/4” square notch trowel. Spread to a uniform thickness of no less than 1/8”. CrownSeal is most effective when applied at a thickness of 1/8” - 1/4” (1” max.).

4.) Lightly mist CrownSeal with water and smooth out trowel marks using a 4” nylon paint brush. On large applications complete one half of the crown at a time. Make sure base of flue tiles are thoroughly coated. Keep container closed when not in use.

Tips: To produce a clean edge and protect the brick just below the crown, place duct tape completely over the face of the top course or row of brick. Tape can also be applied to the flue tile approxroximately 1” from the base of the tile. Remove tape when CrownSeal application is complete.

Coverage Rates: At 1/8” thickness, 14-18 sq. ft. per gallon. At 1/4” thickness, 7-9 sq. ft. per gallon, depending on texture and porosity of surface to be coated.

Curing: Temperature, humidity, thickness of application and porosity of the surface to which CrownSeal is applied will affect the curing time of the product. For faster curing in cool weather, do not mist crown with water before application. Thinner films such as 1/8” will cure faster; thicker applications will cure more slowly and require longer protection from rain. CrownSeal will be dry to touch within several hours. Product will cure completely within 24-72 hours depending on above factors. A plastic covering may be used if rainfall is expected before product is cured.

Clean-Up: Remove CrownSeal from tools immediately after each use by scrubbing with a brush and water. To clean inadvertent spills from roofs, etc., remove excess and clean remaining CrownSeal with a stiff nylon scrub brush and water. Rinse thoroughly.
